Cool shot

This image was taken from Voyager, nearly 30 years ago. Back then, just eight years after we had first walked on the moon, it seemed as though we'd be seeing pics of man walking on Mars by now. Things have really stalled in that department, though. It's hard to imagine looking back at earth from this vantage. I'm reminded of a road trip, where a landmark like Mt. Rainier fades from view behind you, and new landmarks emerge in front of you.

It kind of reminds me of the Foundation Trilogy in that we are actually going backwards in some ways. Folks like Arthur Clarke are probably a bit surprised by our lack of advancement in space. He envisioned rotating space stations, a moon base, and manned flights to Jupiter by 2001.
